Views from camp ...

We went camping in the Adirondacks last month. One of the pleasures I get from this form of outdoor adventure is the chance to take lots of pictures! And especially close-up landscapes. This was a miniature garden on one of the trees. There are so many different kinds of moss and lichen here, and look at the color!

Evening light is possibly the best ever for photography – especially when the sun is setting and changing all of the greens to tints of yellow and red. This was a view across the inlet from our campsite. I must have taken a dozen pictures as the light changed, but I like this one because of the reflections.

Creativity, or lack thereof!

Do you ever feel as though you just can’t “get” it?  Creativity, I mean!  Lately, no matter what I do, I seem to get sidetracked.  My goal for the rest of the summer is to jump-start the process.

To that end I found the following on www.creativity-portal.com, and I’m going to try to apply them.

7 things that could be sapping your creativity RIGHT NOW! By Linda Dessau

  1. Not getting enough sleep.

  2. Trying to do it alone.  (I need feedback!)

  3. Stopping before I start (self-doubt)

  4. Poverty mentality (this isn’t an issue for me!)

  5. A cluttered work/living space (living is tidy, work is a mess!)

  6. Disconnection from my inner wisdom

  7. Disconnection from my body (stress!)

The author says that awareness is the  most important step.  To that end I’m going to become more aware.

So, what am I going to do:

  1. Finish dressing the loom with the warp that’s been beamed for three months.

  2. Continue working on the Walsh sweater in my spare time.  This is good for my soul!

  3. Try to pick up the project that was supposed to be LAST summer’s big thing, and that’s learning to sketch.  I can paint, but I can’t draw!

  4. Be kind to myself!!!

Walsh - some progress

It's been so long since I've posted an update. Life DOES get in the way! I had hoped to have more done on this sweater by now, but ...

The sweater is a delight to knit. First of all, I'm doing it exactly as we did the FLAK, so it's very familiar! The yarn is wonderful. There's no fuzz, and it's quite long staple. Therefore, the cables really stand up. The pattern is quite simple. There are only four different cables. The challenge comes in remembering where you are! None of the cables has the same repeat. One is 22 rows, one 14, one 4 and one 2. But it's very easy to "read". Only "interesting" moment I've had thus far is making sure that the center front was on the correct row for those cables when I started it. Had to do a bit of counting, but nothing serious. At this point I'm delighted with the way the sweater looks!!!
