Friday's Flowers on Thursday - again!

We're leaving in a few hours for ten days of camping in the Adirondacks.  We're both looking forward to this so very much.  DH has a demanding job, and we haven't had a "real" vacation in a while.  There's just something about being outdoors, sitting under the trees, watching the water (or paddling our canoe) that's so very relaxing!  And I am taking some knitting and some spinning stuff.  I've been working on a color graded stole that I haven't photographed yet.  I'll do that when I get home.

Anyway, here's my contribution for this week.  My gardens are really beginning to produce!

I have a new book!

Afinefleece_thumb-2008-06-18-12-27.jpg

Many people have written about this book, a fine fleece by lisa lloyd, and I couldn't understand why I would want to spend the money to buy it.  I've been a spinning teacher for many, many years, so I don't need instruction.  I've spun just about every fiber that's commercially available and use the yarn in projects.  And I design my own Aran sweaters.

Well, let me tell you the reason I bought it.  It's "eye candy" of the highest level!!!  This is one beautiful book.  And all of the information is well presented.  And ....  I may even make one or two of the sweaters.  They're wonderful!

Friday's Flowers - After the rains

Unfortunately peonies don't do very well in heavy rain.  And it ALWAYS rains when they're blooming.  But they're such beautiful flowers!

Did you know that weeds are just wildflowers that are growing in the wrong place?  I've left this milkweed plant in my garden on purpose.  It will draw butterflies, and I can't wait for it to bloom.

It was a quick visit with my daughter and grandkids ...

... in Florida at the end of last week.  I can't say that Florida is one of my favorite places - hot, humid, bugs, UGH!  But, I enjoyed seeing all of them.

My daughter is a Disney employee, so we spent one whole day at the park.  I'm not going to plug in hundreds of pictures, but I'll share one of daughter and three grandtads.

If you've been to Disney you recognize the castle.  And the front of it is used as a stage for performances.  There's a new show there now, and this picture is special.

I'll get to see it again at Christmas, I'm sure!  Maybe with a different "Donald"!

Friday's Flowers a day early!

I'm leaving in the morning for a four day trip to visit grand-tads in Florida.  So this is what's blooming in my garden today.

Forget about "raindrops on roses, and ...", I like the raindrops on clematis.  I'm so very excited that these are blooming this year.  We lost a tree in January, and it seems that the clematis are happy with the more intense light they're getting.  There are four open on this trellis now.

This lemon lily has been in our family for three generations now.  When we first moved to this house 38 years ago, my husband's parents gave us a plant from some that they had inherited from my father-in-law's mother!  The fragrance is amazing!!!

It's a wonder any of these pictures are visible.  The cottonwood trees are doing their "snow job" and the air is full - as well as the edges of my driveway.
